Current Projects

Since 2015, the Balboa Park Committee of 100 has initiated projects to restore the Palisades, the southernmost part of Balboa Park’s National Historic Landmark District. In October 2026, cranes will set up to lift into place the two 1,000-lb. pieces of the bas-relief mural above the Municipal Gym entry, along with ornamentation for the marquee.
Across the plaza, tile murals on the 1935 exposition’s California State Building (home to today’s San Diego Automotive Museum) and accdompanying ornamentation were dedicated in 2021; the bears and flagpoles in 2023.
It's not long until 2035, when another Exposition Centennial will be celebrated in the park -- and the Palisades will be ready!
